Mina drömmars stad review º 3 Mina drömmars stadI'm uite surprised that I haven't already read this book It feels like I should have read it 10 years ago at least but I'm uite happy I read it now I don't know how historically accurate the book is but it feels incredibly real It feels like it was actually written by someone who lived in Stockholm in 1860 And Stockholm in 1860 or less feels like it could have been Stockholm in 1560 All Scandinavians need to read this book to realize that not that awfully long ago we lived in a piss poor part of the world where people worked themselves to death and where your life was or less over at 30Now that I've read the entire book I'm just left feeling a bit sad While I was reading it however I was uite frustrated with human nature which really shows a pretty face in poverty stricken societies You really understand how prohibition could be a great idea seen how weak most men

Mina drömmars stad review º 3 Mina drömmars stadVery good book a real fascinating story about a workers life in Stockholm in the mid 10th century Stockholm Gives an excellent view of the times city environment the ideas and the standard of living at the time Really interesting to read about how some kind of workers movement begin to shape at the same time as the capital owners slowly start to raise the there conditions in response I do not find marxs ideas appealing at all today but reading a book like this really makes you understand how books like Daz Capital and the communist manifesto could be so popular The workers in the book have no safety what so ever One day of rest each week at best worked all day and could barley

Mina drömmars stad review º 3 Mina drömmars stadIt is circa 1860 and Henning Nilsson arrives in Stockholm He is a 15 year old boy from some faraway farm He has only one shirt and one pair of shoes that are too big He is not big or strong but he is full of hopes And smart by the end of the first chapter he manages to help some villager with a stuck cart and so enters the city of his dreams on a horse The reader will follow his life story for twenty years while he is looking for jobs trying to scrape by and get his share of love and happiness in the world where most poor people were doomed to have none of that The graphic and vivid descriptions of terrible poverty and hardships awakened my inner s

Mina drömmars stad review º 3 Mina drömmars stadIt took me a little while to get into this; the prose was a bit choppy the characters were a rather distant and the time went by much too fast It was frustrating that it was written for people who know what's where in Stockholm; I don't so I had no sense of where characters were or where events were occuringHowever it did eventually draw me in and I forgot I was reading a book I liked the characters even though they're not as vivid as Moberg's and I enjoyed seeing of just how crappy Europe was for most people The ending was unexpected but firmly rooted in the characters and events earlier in the novel I would certainly recommend it and I'm going to read the second book soon

Mina drömmars stad review º 3 Mina drömmars stadIn school I had to learn the kings of Sweden and important dates for battles and invasions In my eyes it seems like a waste of time when the real history is better portrayed in a novel like this I loved every minute of it
